What to Expect at Your First Dermal Filler Treatment
When you see signs of aging on your face, you may want to turn back the hands of time. You can — and without invasive surgery. Check out dermal filler appointments, and learn how quick and easy they are.

Are you looking for a skin rejuvenation treatment that doesn’t involve painful plastic surgery? Experts estimate that more than 1 million dermal fillers are administered in the United States each year. It’s a popular and quick in-office procedure that can provide instant results.

At Ample Health, we offer both Botox® and dermal fillers for patients who want a more refreshed, youthful appearance. You can count on board-certified internist Dheeraj Kamra, MD, and Yelena Popova, PA, and the rest of our team to provide outstanding results.

Here’s a rundown on what happens during the initial dermal filler treatment. Don’t worry: We provide complete pre- and post-procedure written instructions for you.

Reaching agreement on proposed treatment

We ask what your goals are for your appearance, then show you before and after photos of patients who have had similar dermal filler treatments. We want you to have a realistic understanding of the changes you’ll see after the treatment.

We also explain how long the effects of your treatment are going to last. Some dermal fillers last about six months to a year, while others last more than two years.

We assess your facial structure and appearance and let you know which dermal fillers would be appropriate for you. Based on the evaluation, we may or may not recommend Botox along with dermal fillers to help you accomplish your goals.

Preparing for your dermal filler treatment

Once we reach agreement on the proposed treatment, we mark areas on your face where we plan to administer the injections.

Our staff applies a local anesthetic to help you avoid discomfort during the injections. We clean your skin with an antibacterial cleanser to protect against any complications or infection at the injection site.

Administering dermal filler injections

The injections are quick and targeted to the specific points that we marked. After each injection using a thin needle, we massage the area to ensure filler coverage in the target areas and then evaluate your appearance.

After your dermal filler appointment

After the procedure, we provide you with written instructions and recommend ice packs or cold compresses to help relieve swelling. You can use the post-procedure instructions as a checklist to ensure you follow all of the guidance for an optimal recovery and refreshed appearance.

You’ll likely have some aftereffects of the injections. Swelling, bruising, tenderness, discoloration, and/or bumpy appearance at the site of the injection are all common and disappear within a day or two.

We advise forgoing vigorous exercise for a few days, but other than that, you can resume your normal routine. You can contact our office with any questions after your procedure.
